Sapphire stands at about 5 feet 6 inches. She has black hair that reaches down to her hips, and striking blue eyes for which her parents named her. She has a slim build and weighs about 126 pounds, but she does keep in shape by going to work out with her older brother at a center in her district. She has a proportionate nose and soft, full pink lips.
She is considered very pretty by most of the people that know her or see her but she doesn’t care about her looks. Her style is simple, a regular t-shirt and a pair of nice-fitting jeans will do it for her. Her favorite colors to wear are blue to bring out her eyes and black. She always wears a sapphire necklace around her neck that belonged to her great-grandmother and has been passed down mother to daughter.
Sapphire has allowed herself to take some advantage of how good her life is because of living in District one. She has a tattoo of angel wings tattooed on her shoulder blades. Other than this however, she does not really use the fortunate circumstances she has to get ahold of overly-nice things. She is a very simple girl who only takes care of her simple needs.

Sapphire enjoys being around people and she interacts well with others. She is strong-willed and will always speak her mind when confronted with a question. She dislikes bullies and is quite ashamed of the fact that her younger brother is just that type of person. She will stick up to anyone who she thinks is unfairly harassing another, and has even shown this side of herself in front of the Peacekeepers that work in District 1. They don’t think she will do any real harm or start any trouble and so they go their separate ways.
Sapphire dislikes the Hunger Games with a passion, every year watching young people carted off to be slaughtered by one another. One year her little brothers name had been called but she was relieved when one of the Careers had volunteered to take his place. Her older brother had been too old. She is afraid that someone she cares about will be reaped for the Games.
She had decided after that incident that should the moment come where a girl is chosen that is too young or that she cares a lot for, Sapphire will volunteer herself in their stead. She wishes so badly for the day to come where the Hunger Games will no longer be performed, but until such a time, she has made up her mind to protect whoever she can. She has even done some training for just such an occasion.

Sapphire was born in District 1 on June 14 to her mother, Carma Farelain who worked to make the beautiful jewelery that the privileged people of the Capitol wore, and her father, Laiken Farelain who did work at a smelting factory that made the metals for that jewelery. Before her, her mother gave birth to her first child, Sapphire’s older brother, Alexander. After Sapphire came her younger brother Ty and then the youngest sibling, her baby sister Lucienne.
From the ages of 5 to around 13, Sapphire attended school before she went to work helping her mother in the factory, helping to make magnificent jewelery. It wasn’t until she turned 14 that Sapphire really started to have disapproving thoughts about the Capitol and their Hunger Games. Every year people would be chosen, and every year Career tributes would volunteer in their place. Sometimes they would come back victors, sometimes not.
Sapphire had just turned 15 when her Ty’s name was reaped for the Games. Her heart had stopped in that moment. Alexander was 20, too old to volunteer in his place, but surprise of all surprises and Career volunteered and her little brother, then only just having turned 12, was spared. Sapphire’s life was changed forever after that. She wanted to be able to protect the people that she cared about, wanted to be able to volunteer for them if their names were reaped. She could of course only do this for the girls but still.
She started learning how to fight from Alexander, who was reluctant enough at first but understood her motivation. He had probably felt just as helpless when Ty had had his name drawn. So they worked out, learned how to use different weapons. Sapphire was quick on her feet and not back with a sword, but what shocked her brother the most was the weapon she excelled at. It was a long metal chain with a sharp blade at the end. It took Sapphire no time at all to be able to swing it around her body without any thought of harming herself.
Unforunately, Sapphire didn’t have strength going for her, nor did her or her brother have the kind of herbal knowledge that they both knew came in handy during the Games, but it would have to do. Every day Sappire goes out with her brother to practice her skills and prepare for the day that she just might have to trade her life for that of another.
