Appearance

You couldn't exactly say, not without lying, that Kaya is not good looking. With her bright, almost crimson coloured hair and her green eyes she is an uusual eye-catcher. That matched with her pale skin and small features makes her different from the average district nine resident. Her eyes are coloured green with specks of dark blue in them.

Kaya has strong arms due to hours of pulling on bow-strings while hunting. Otherwise her she's thin, though not under-fed and not as well-muscled as other people in her district are. Her small body size, at just about five foot three allows her to make a quick escape up branches. When Kaya smiles it can easily appear sly and impish.

Kaya does not necessarily have a style. It's difficult to have a style if one already lives at the brink of poverty. She likes feeling comfortable in a feminine way. She does not shy away from dresses or skirts, but chooses the practical clothes over the fashionable.

"Well, actually, I am not that pretty. I am good looking enough, but my hair is embarrassigly bright. You can't even begin to imagine! Look, I can't blush without feeling self-conscious. In school they used to make fun of me because of it - not that I care all that much. I'm really short! It sucks because Flight is really tall and makes me feel tiny next to her. Compared to Flight I'm spindly and weak. But I know that I'm not. Not really.

I do have a style! How dare you decide these things! I absolutely refuse to wear baggy pants. They're not only inefficient at keeping you warm - they serve as much warmth as a skirt does - but they look absolutely atrocious and make me look fat. I refuse to look fat. My eyes are nice enough, I guess. I don't have much to say about them. I'm ot perfect, in no way. You forgot to mention that my nose is crooked and that I really hate having a crooked nose and that my paleness is in stark contrast to my hair colour! I have scars on my elbows from where I scraped them against a boulder once. They're not that bad, not really."

Kaya looks different from most people. Of course people in the Capitol are likely to look even stranger than she does, but in District Nine she certainly is an eye catcher. For one, her hair is bright red. The shade does not look natural, even though it is. Her eyes are green and watchful. They look sly and she thinks she is always being targeted as a wrong-doer even when she does not do a thing. She is very strong in her arms and has aqcuired some muscles in both arms and legs from climbing trees to get a better shot of animals. Living in the district dedicated to hunting, she does not allow herself to bond with any animal. She likes animals, but her job forces her to kill them. She has naturally light skin and freckled arms. She is relatively tall at five foot and seven inches. Sometimes she hunts illegally to keep food on the table. She is quick and agile when she hunts.

When one first meets Kaya, she may seem defensive. Her fiery hair color stays true to its steriotype; she is feisty, loud and defensive. She is sometimes too straight forward about what she thinks about some people, accidentally hurting quite a few as she does so. She is friendly once she warms up to people and a very loyal friend when the time comes. It is best not to test Kaya because she has a quick and flaring temper, though it cools down quickly. Unlike many people, Kaya is not one to hold any grudges against people. She will get mad, throw a fit and cool down and then apologize. Easy as that. She is defensive about her family, especially her little brother, of whom she is very protective.

Kaya was born in District Nine. Simple as that. Her father is called Roger and her mother is called Callie. From both of her parents, she learned how to make snares and throw spears. She learned how to shoot an arrow and skin a squirrel. In district nine there are many dangerous animals lurking around, waiting to be killed and served for the hungry Capitol citizens. Kaya hates the Capitol with all her heart.

Her family brinks at starvation, almost everyone does in District Nine. One may not eat the food that is hunted since it all belongs to the wealthy Capitol. However, ever since Kaya can remember, she's gone out to hunt illegally as well, along with her father. She has a younger brother called Trig. She has no idea when her parents came up with that name, or why for that matter, but it stuck. He is seven years younger than Kaya.

She can't understand how the residents of the Capitol can stuff their faces and watch the Hunger Games and never care, never show an ounce of emotion over the fact that more than a dozen children die every year. While they battle starvation, the Capitol gets five star menues. While they battle against the cold, the Capitol wears expensive fur coats made in District 8. But then again, life isn't fair.
